for the Culture and Tradition Event 2019

Altstätten is the Carnival stronghold in the Rhine Valley and known far and wide. The Carnival enjoys an excellent reputation and shapes our town. It attracts countless visitors, from the immediate neighbourhood as well as from other regions of Switzerland and from abroad.

This success is to a large extent the merit of the Röllelibutzen Verein in Altstätten. The Röllelibutzen Verein is celebrating its 100th anniversary - congratulations!

I would like to welcome my dear friends of the traditional carnival culture to our great European Cultural and Customs Meeting. I feel very proud to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our association from the 14th until the 17th of February 2019 with 34 other groups and guilds from 13 different European countries in my hometown of Altstätten.

Local artist Josef Ebnöther created the motif for the anniversary celebration. It shows a Röllelibutz with many visitors from near and far.

The extended organising committee 2019 would like to welcome the population of the region, the neighbouring countries, all participating groups, carnival guests and visitors from all over Europe to Altstätten.

It has been five years since the Röllelibutzen Association's commission first thought about the 100th year anniversary and then laid the foundation stone for it.
